Woelco History 1962 -2016

1962

Rolf Wölfle leases a shut down seal tag printing factory in Ehningen and establishes Kommanditgesellschaft Wölfle und Co., laying the foundation for today’s Wölco AG with 150 employees worldwide.

1964

A new special printing machine is acquired, a unit for consecutive numbering is developed, and the company switches from wet bonding labels to self-adhesive labels.

1968

Introduction of new color technology with UV colors that are extremely brilliant and can be processed immediately after printing.

1970s

Initial developments in the printing and die cutting of synthetic adhesive materials (films).

Factory building expanded. A modern 4-color semi-rotation printing machine is added to the production line, making it possible to manufacture extremelysophisticated self-adhesive labels.

Rolf Wölfle invests in an additional factory building and a 3-color printing press.

Additional investment in a 3-color printing machine. The last few years have revealed a readiness to make considerable investments – a new printing machine has been purchased each year.

1980s

Dieter Wölfle joins the company.

Development and introduction of the MADAT operating and order data system. All printing information is recorded online using computer terminals. The Woelco quality assurance system with the Woelco quality pass is also introduced.

Acquisition of a new building in Ehningen and warehousing of printing plates and dies is changed to a computer-controlled system.

1996

Woelco quality management system achieves DIN EN ISO 9001 certification. Woelco included in the Top 100 book of the most innovative companies in Germany and receives two FINAT awards.

Investment in a 6-color UV flexoprint system.

 

 

1998

Woelco Labeling Solutions, Inc. established in Charlotte, USA.

More FINAT awards and continuous increase in exports to Europe and North and South America. The first complete label print-and-apply system is delivered to the USA.

2002

Company celebrates its 40-year anniversary and receives the FINAT 2002 award in the Marketing category for the development of a new insert label for mobile telephones.

The US site moves into a new company building.

2003

The Woelco company is re-certified in accordance with TS 16949:2002 and DIN EN ISO 9001.

Woelco bids farewell to company founder Rolf Wölfle, who dies at the age of 74.

Representation established in Shanghai, China.

2006

Opening of Changzhou Woelco Technology Co. Limited (WLC) in China. Wölco AG expands its presence with the addition of a manufacturing facility in Wujin Industrial Park and is one of the few companies to manufacture self-adhesive solutions in accordance with the German standard in China.

2007

45th anniversary of Wölco AG. Woelco China is certified by TS16949 - every three Woelco locations now certified by this high quality standard.

Installation of a multi-color thermal transfer digital printing machine in Germany.

2009

On behalf of Rolf Dieter & Wölfle Foundation Wölco AG delivers to the Johannes Gutenberg School (JGS) a label printing machine.  The label printing machine has a value of around 200,000 Euro. The students can produce itself all types of label and thereby they gain valuable experience for their future careers. 

2011/12

At the beginning of 2011, the 7-color digital printing system is operated. Now labels can be individually designed and equipped with variable data, images and text. With that 7-colors the hole Pantone Scale can be simulated.

The Opel Ampera is taken as the first electric vehicle in the car pool of Wölco. In short distances up 100km so a zero grams is achieved CO2 emission.

2016 - already an eventful year

CCL acquired Woelco AG

On January 18, 2016, Dieter Woelfle, the principal shareholder of Woelco, sold 100% of his shares to CCL Industries Inc. (“CCL”), a world leader in specialty label and packaging solutions for global corporations, small businesses, and consumers. Being part of the CCL-Group, Woelco can now offer a greater variety of innovative products and labeling solutions, as well as provide better global service to customers.

Woelco AG becomes CCL Design Stuttgart AG

With the date of  June, 24th 2016 Woelco AG we will be operating under CCL Design Stuttgart AG. Since our legal company status stays the same, all other important data will be unaffected.
